International Conference on Urban Pests 13-16 July, 2008 - Budapest, Hungary
This triennial conference offers an excellent forum for exchanging ideas and information on the biology and control of pests in urban environments. Experience of the previous years show that the event is attended by prominent entomologists, pest management and chemical professionals, university scientists and authorities from all over the world. Previous conference venues included Cambridge, England (1993), Edinburgh, Scotland (1996) Prague, Czech Republic (1999), Charleston, USA (2002) and Singapore (2005). We are pleased to join now this illustrious list and host this remarkable event in 2008. Budapest, the capital of Hungary is well-known for its achievement and experience in large scale urban rodent and cockroach control. The World Health Organization (WHO) cites the deratization campaign performed in the city in the early 70-ies and the subsequent maintenance activity as one of the best organised long-term rodent control programmes in the world. This creates a great environment for the people of Budapest and for tourism. The official language of the Conference will be English and the format will include guest speakers, presented papers, posters and workshops/symposia.

Location Budapest, the capital of Hungary, is an economic, financial and cultural centre with two million inhabitants. The city, which is beautifully situated on both sides of the Danube river has a history dating back over 2000 years. There are ruins from the times of the Roman Empire as well as from the Middle Ages. Its main characteristics reflect the atmosphere of the end of the 19th century when the millennium of the Hungarian State was celebrated. It boasts a number of museums (picture gallery of the museums), theatres, concert halls, a lot of restaurants and other amenities. Several baths and thermal waters of various medicinal springs are also at the disposal of visitors. In recent years the UNESCO put several parts of the city on the World Heritage list.
